How to protect your lips in the summertime

Summer is the time when people get to relax and be themselves; the children are out of school, families go on vacations, you can soak up the sun rays at the beach and finally get that tan you wanted. Summer reminds us that life is beautiful!

Summer also means that we have to take extra care of our skin. There's a tiny patch of skin that we frequently overlook as we face the summer elements - the lips. Lips are made of fragile skin and they could easily fall victim to the harsh weather. Worry not; you are going to know all the secrets and hacks you need to keep your lips luscious and beautiful all summer long and around the year.

Exfoliate; you probably already scrub your whole body, do you include your lips, too? Scrubs are a great way to keep the dead skin away and the fun part is; you can make your own version of your favorite scrubs!

Try these recipes for supple, lush lips. Don't use them more than 3-4 times a week, or you will strip your lips of their natural moisture. The best time to exfoliate your lips is before bedtime, followed by a good lip balm.

Mint Lip Scrub

2.) 1 X teaspoon honey

3.) 1 X teaspoon olive oil

4.) 1 X drop peppermint essential oil

Mix the ingredients in a small bowl until they resemble a coarse paste. Store in a glass jar or a small container for up to one week.

2.) 2 X tablespoon coconut sugar

3.) 1 X tablespoon honey

Mix the ingredients until you get a grainy paste.

An easy trick to moisturize your lips is by using this "lip mask."

Honey Lip Mask

1.) 1 X teaspoon raw, organic honey

Honey moisturizes your lips and has antibiotic properties. In addition to that, it has a thick consistency, making sure it stays on when you apply it.

Lastly, always make sure that you have a lip balm in hand. The lip balm will protect your lips from harmful UV rays while keeping them moisturized. We recommend using Palmer's Lip Balms and Butters; as they contain SPF 15, which will protect your lips from the harmful sun rays, cocoa butter will keep your lips moisturized, and vitamin E will keep your lips smooth.
